Rewards at UHS

At Uxbridge High School, we believe that students should feel PROUD of their success, in whatever form it comes. To share that with our students, we choose to reward them for being Positive, Respectful, Open-Minded, Unique and Determined.

Behaviour

The positive behaviour system works in tandem with sanctions to enable students to understand both the positive and negative consequences of their behaviour. Students can be rewarded for any of the following:

  • Coming to school with a fantastic attitude
  • Participating in lessons
  • Speaking in assembly
  • Representing the school well
  • Completing excellent classwork and homework
  • Exceeding their targets
  • Many more PROUD behaviours

House & Sixth Form Assemblies

Every week in House assemblies, selected students from Year 7-11 and individual form groups are rewarded for receiving the most positive points in the House. Students are also given their PROUD badges and it is explained why they are being shown as model citizens of the school. In the Sixth Form assembly every fortnight, students from the senior school are given Proud Badges and one House is awarded the House of the Week.

To keep the competition alive in the school, each House is also presented with the Leader Board which can be found on the homepage of the website. This means they can see how much they have improved their House's chance at winning the House Trophy. Alongside the individual points awarded, Houses also win points in PE competitions across the year.

Badges

There are two types of badges that students can receive. The first is PROUD badges and they are given out every week in House assemblies. They can be given to students by any member of staff for being Positive, Respectful, Open-Minded, Unique and Determined. Students wear these badges on their blazers and collect them over the course of several years. Students have received them for:

  • Helping members of the larger community who were in need
  • Volunteering to support a teacher in school
  • Standing up for another student
  • Sharing revision resources in form time.

Principal's commendation badges are given out for truly exemplary behaviour. 12 students from across all year groups have been awarded for:

  • Representing the school at Open Evening and supporting a prospective student feel comfortable
  • Giving a speech to 200 people about the importance of sport at a local event
  • Running a sports club every week for a term

Parental Support

As every parent will know, the work that is done at home is incredibly important in supporting students in their educational journey. Knowing this, we inform parents of their child's positive work at school using emails and letters home, as well as at the annual Awards Ceremony.

Parents can also find our celebrations of individual students and groups as well as information about the rewards trips in the school newsletter and on twitter: @UxbridgeHighSchand @UHSPrincipal

Rewards Trips

Once termly, we take students out to educational venues around London to reward them for outstanding work. To be eligible, they must have only positive points and be in the top 50 students from Years 7-10.

In autumn 2017, the students went to the Science Museum and had a great day learning about the engineering required to send a man to the moon.

In spring 2018, 30 students took part in a day dedicated to exploring Charles' Dickens life and work in preparation for both their English GCSE and for their understanding of the Victorian period. They even met the great man himself!

In summer 2018, we will be taking 30 students to KidZania to explore their future career choices.

We will also be taking 60 of our most exemplary students to PGL at the end of the summer term to congratulate them for a great year!
