Royal Shakespeare Company Year 2 Launch Event
On Tuesday, 11th November 2014, Uxbridge High School hosted the RSC Year 2 Launch Event, which was attended by Lizzie Rawlinson, Project Manager of Learning and Performance Network at the RSC.
This event celebrated the collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company and Intermission Theatre Company as part of the LPN to which we have now welcomed the new cluster schools.
We had an excellent evening of celebration, introductions and performance. Teachers and students from our four cluster schools attended. All the schools have begun working with us on a community theatre piece for the summer term that will celebrate Shakespeare and his plays.
This event gave us a chance to meet all people involved in this project and set out our aims and objectives. Members of the Intermission Theatre Company worked practically with students from all the schools, while teachers were introduced, enjoyed canapes and spoke to our Years 8 and 9 Shakespeare Ambassadors, who performed pieces of ‘pop-up’ Shakespeare. The groups were then reunited in the Activity Studio for a production of Verona Road by Intermission Theatre Company, which the students were involved in, adding vocals and creating atmosphere on stage. At the end of the performance, the actors held a question and answer session with the audience, which was a great opportunity for our teachers and students to ask the theatre company about their own experiences with Shakespeare.
All who attended, thoroughly enjoyed the event and feel ready to work hard in Year 2 of the RSC’s LPN.
