Hillingdon Borough Cross Country

On a cold and windy day, all Hillingdon Secondary schools descended on Vyners playing fields for the annual Borough Cross Country organised by the Uxbridge High School PE Department.  The boys races took place in the morning and the girls in the afternoon and in total there were over 600 runners!

Uxbridge High ran their event in school and selected the top 10 runners from each year to represent the school at the event.

IMG_3353The year 7 boys’ event went off first and Lewis Brookfield led from the start to make history…he is the first Key Stage 3 Champion the school has had.  Jacob Hunting also ran well to finish 9th and they have both been selected to represent Hillingdon at the Middlesex Championships. As a whole, the team all scored well and managed to secure a 3rd place finish out of the 11 schools taking part.

The intermediate (Years 8 and 9 combined) boys also performed well, with Rithik Bagga leading with a 6th place finish to get himself into the Middlesex Team.  All runners finished in the top 50, which meant that the team also finished 3rd out of 12 schools.

In the afternoon, the junior girls set off first with nearly 120 runners.  All of our runners finished in top 60, which meant that the team finished 7th out of 15 schools, so well done to all of those students.

In the intermediate race, there were nearly 140 runners from 19 schools taking part. It was a tough race but Sumayyah Hamud performed well to come 19. The team ran as well as they could, and finished 12th overall.

The senior girls race attracted nearly 50 runners and a great run from Sian Judd, meant that she came 9th overall and is another UHS student who will be representing Hillingdon in the Middlesex Championships.  The rest of the team ran as well as they could, but it was hard going with conditions worsening. They finished 5th out of the 9 schools taking part.

Well done to all those that took part in the day and we look forward to even more success next year!
