The Year 7 Speech Competition

“What Does It Mean to Be an Everyday Hero?”

The Year 7 Speech Competition, themed “What Does It Mean to Be an Everyday Hero?”, was a remarkable display of confidence and communication. Our students delivered powerful speeches with enthusiasm and maturity, reflecting their hard work and the strong development of their oracy skills.

The event showcased their courage in stepping up to speak in front of an audience, with each participant offering unique and inspirational interpretations of what it means to be a hero in everyday life. From celebrating kindness and resilience to recognising quiet acts of bravery, students demonstrated thoughtful reflection and creativity in their responses.

Through this experience, students developed a range of important skills, including confidence, clarity of expression and effective use of language. They learned how to structure ideas, engage an audience and use tone, pace and body language to enhance their message — all essential skills for both academic success and life beyond the classroom.

Opportunities such as this play a vital role in helping students grow as confident communicators and presenters. We are incredibly proud of all those who took part and inspired the audience, and we would like to extend our sincere thanks to parents and carers for their continued support in making the event such a success.
