Celebrating a Golden Half Term: Year 7 Reflections, Diwali Festival and Support for Exam Students

As the first half term draws to a close, Louisa Seymour, Principal of Uxbridge High School, reflected on a busy and successful few weeks in her latest vlog. Joined by two Year 7 students, Ms Seymour celebrated the achievements, positivity and community spirit that continue to shine through every corner of the school.

“It’s hard to believe how quickly this half term has flown by,” Ms Seymour said. “I’m really pleased to be ending it in the sunshine and hopefully with a golden smile.”

Year 7: Settling In and Shining Bright

This week’s vlog began with two Year 7 students, William and Sabrine, sharing their experiences of starting secondary school.
William, from 7YM, highlighted his enjoyment of lessons, particularly in maths, while Sabrine, from 7XCA, reflected on how quickly she made new friends.

“At first I thought it would be difficult,” said Sabrine, “but once I got to know people, it was really easy. We share the same hobbies and interests.”

Ms Seymour praised the confidence and enthusiasm of the Year 7s, thanking parents for helping their children settle in so well.

“They’ve had a fantastic start to life at UHS, and it’s clear they’re already embracing our PROUD values. We look forward to seeing them continue to grow and thrive in the run-up to Christmas.”

Diwali: Bringing Light Through Inclusivity

This week also saw the school community come together to celebrate Diwali, led by Ms Perk in a thought-provoking assembly exploring the festival’s themes of light over darkness and hope through unity.

“The imagery of Diwali is always powerful,” Ms Seymour explained. “Even for students who don’t personally celebrate the festival, the message of bringing light into the world and within ourselves is universal.”

Students learned how these themes connect to the school’s values of inclusion, respect and positivity. Ms Seymour encouraged parents to speak with their children about what they took from the assembly and to reflect together on how the spirit of Diwali can be lived out every day.

“Whether through kindness, hope or gratitude, we can all bring a little more light to those around us,” she said. “To everyone in our community who celebrated Diwali, I hope it was a joyful and peaceful occasion.”

Supporting Year 11 and Year 13 Ahead of Exams

Looking ahead, Ms Seymour offered encouragement and practical advice for Year 11 and Year 13 students, who will begin their second round of PPEs (mock exams) shortly after the half-term break.

“These assessments are a really important milestone,” she explained. “They help us understand how much students have learned and what support they might need before their final exams.”

Students will be bringing home revision packs and guidance for parents on how to support study routines at home.
Parents of Year 11s can contact Mr Irwin or any member of the Year 11 team, and Year 13 parents can reach out to Ms Hill for advice or support.

“It’s important our students balance hard work with rest,” Ms Seymour added. “They’ve earned a break, but a little structure will help them return confident and prepared.”

A Message of Thanks

To close, Ms Seymour extended heartfelt thanks to families and staff across the school community.

“We’ve worked incredibly hard this half term, creating hope, building confidence, and generating light. Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We couldn’t do what we do without you.”

Uxbridge High School wishes all students, parents and staff a happy and restful half-term break.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone back, same time, same place, refreshed and ready for another fantastic term,” Ms Seymour concluded.
