Principals Weekly Update

Celebrating Success, Honouring Legacy and Preparing for the Future

Welcome to this week’s blog from Uxbridge High School. It has been a week full of celebration, reflection and planning ahead as we continue to support and inspire our students through all stages of their journey.

Golden Laurel Leaf Assembly: Celebrating Achievement

We began the week by celebrating our exceptional Year 11 students during the Golden Laurel Leaf Assembly. Every student received a graduation certificate, but the spotlight was on those who went above and beyond during their time at UHS.

The Golden Laurel Leaf represents the highest level of recognition within our school. It is awarded for excellence in a variety of areas, including academic achievement, performing arts, sport, character, resilience and commitment to our PROUD values. This prestigious honour forms part of each student’s legacy and sets a benchmark for younger students to aspire to.

It was especially inspiring to have students from other year groups, including Year 7 and Year 9, witness this celebration. We hope they feel motivated to pursue excellence in their own journeys and one day earn this recognition themselves.

Thank you to all the parents and carers who joined us to celebrate this important milestone.

Assembly Focus: The Windrush Generation

This week’s assemblies have focused on the legacy of the Windrush Generation, in recognition of Windrush Day on 22 June. Students have learned about the contributions made by Caribbean communities who came to the UK after the Second World War and how their experiences have shaped modern Britain.

Form time discussions gave students the opportunity to explore the topic further, reflecting on themes of migration, identity, and justice. This learning is vital as it connects history to current issues and encourages students to think critically about the world around them.

Transition, Wider Opportunities and Student Voice

Our focus this week has also been on transition and the many opportunities available to our students as they move through the school.

Year 9 students are finalising their curriculum pathways for Key Stage 4, preparing for the transition into GCSE study. Year 11 students are beginning their next chapter, with many staying on to join our Sixth Form. Meanwhile, Year 7 students are preparing to support our upcoming Transition Day, where they will help welcome the new Year 7 cohort.

To support this transition, two of our current Year 7 students shared their reflections on the school year so far. They spoke about memorable experiences such as the Bubble World trip in central London and the visit to Hampton Court Palace. These trips not only offered valuable learning but also built lasting memories.

They also offered advice for incoming students. One tip was to make the most of every opportunity to earn positive points, which lead to exciting rewards through our recognition programme. Another key message was to treat all staff and peers with respect, as positive relationships are essential to a successful school experience.

Looking Ahead

As we approach the end of the academic year, our commitment remains the same. We continue to strive for excellence, support our students at every stage, and uphold the values that define our school community.

Thank you for reading and for being part of Uxbridge High School.

We look forward to sharing more in next week’s update.
