Uxbridge High School – Final Vlog of the Half Term

Hello Uxbridge High School community and welcome to the final vlog of this fabulous half term that we've had here at school.

As always, there are three themes this week:

  1. 1. Year 10 highlights
  2. 2. A big thank you to our whole community
  3. 3. Sports Day

Year 10 Highlights

Work Experience

Year 10 students have been involved in a real, in-person work experience day, the first in a long time. This was a pilot, with Year 9s (who will become Year 10s next year) due to participate in an extended version with at least three days of experience.

Two students, Livia and Daria, joined the vlog to share their reflections.

A message from Livia.

"My name is Livia and I worked for a production company. I did a script breakdown, which helped me see the real work environment and prepared me for the workforce."

A message from Daria.

"My name is Daria and I did work experience for a company called Avial. I did graphic design for a website and it provided me with great opportunities to explore my creativity and speak to real professionals in their careers."

Psychology Trip

In addition to work experience, Year 10 students have also had the opportunity to go on a psychology trip, enriching their understanding of the curriculum outside the classroom.

STEM Project with Motives and Kenvu

Livia and Daria were also part of a STEM sustainability project working with Motives and their partner Kenvu. They explained:

"We're working on sustainability for Kenvu products and doing a presentation today. We were chosen for Benenden. This gave us a chance to develop our marketing, public speaking, teamwork, and creative skills, all valuable for future jobs."

Speak Out Challenge

Another group of Year 10 students took part in the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge. Feedback from staff and visitors was that this was the best Speak Out event the school has hosted, showing that we have some impressive future communicators in our midst.

A Big Thank You

As we approach the end of the half term, it's important to say thank you to:

  • Parents
  • Students
  • Teachers

All year groups, especially Years 10, 11, 12, and 13, are performing well thanks to strong collaboration between school and home, great teaching, and intervention efforts before and after school, and even during holidays.

Pre-Public Exams Coming Up

Years 10 and 12 will soon begin their pre-public exams (practice exams for next year). Parents will receive further information from the Heads of Learning. Please look out for those updates.

Celebrations for Years 11 and 13

Year 11 and 13 students are coming to the end of their school journey, and we’re celebrating them with special events, including:

  • Year 11 Prom – Parents, please purchase tickets as soon as possible so we can finalise numbers.
  • Year 13 Leavers’ Event – Details are being shared, and we’re looking forward to a brilliant send-off.

If you have any questions about these events, please get in touch with the school office.

Sports Day

We were hoping to film this vlog on Sports Day, but it is taking place tomorrow (Friday) and we’re filming on Thursday. However:

  • Photos and highlights will be shared on social media and through school channels after the event.
  • We are currently in the school field, it’s bright, not too hot and perfect weather for tomorrow.

Key Stage 3 students will be taking part, representing their houses and forms, coming together to celebrate our Gold Standards and school spirit.

Thank you to all the parents supporting students to attend. It promises to be a fantastic day.

Year 10 Careers Activities

While Key Stage 3 enjoy Sports Day, Year 10 will continue their careers activities, ensuring every student benefits from enriching experiences this term.

Final Message

Wishing you a fantastic bank holiday weekend and a restful half-term break. Thank you again for your continued support, and we’ll see you all on the other side.
