Principals Weekly Update

This week's Principal's Vlog continued our whole-school theme of Unity, focusing on three key areas: the recent hot weather, our exciting Poetry Slam activities, and this week's assemblies on the Windrush Generation.
Thank You for Your Support During the Heat
With exceptionally high temperatures this week, I would like to thank every member of our school community for the way we have worked together to keep students safe while maintaining learning.
Our students have shown fantastic resilience and determination, continuing to work hard despite the challenging conditions. I would also like to thank parents and carers for ensuring students arrived prepared with water bottles, appropriate clothing and everything they needed to stay as comfortable as possible. Finally, thank you to our dedicated staff, who have worked tirelessly to adapt routines and support students throughout the week.
The strength of any community is demonstrated by how it responds to change, and this week our school community has done exactly that.
Poetry, Creativity and the Power of Unity
Despite the warm weather, the summer term continues to be full of exciting opportunities. Year 7 students have been enjoying their visit to Hampton Court Palace, while students across the school have been taking part in inspiring poetry workshops ahead of this week's Poetry Slam.
Professional poets have been working with students to explore this year's theme of Unity, encouraging them to express how celebrating our differences while recognising what brings us together creates stronger communities.
It has been wonderful to see students embracing this message through their creativity and sharing their own unique perspectives.
Learning from the Windrush Generation
This week's assemblies, led by Miss Lucinda Jones, have focused on the Windrush Generation and the lasting contribution they have made to Britain.
Students have explored both the challenges faced by those who arrived in the UK and the enormous cultural impact they have had on British society. Through discussions, poetry and the work of Benjamin Zephaniah, students have reflected on how diversity enriches our communities through music, food, literature, traditions and events such as the Notting Hill Carnival.
The assemblies reinforce an important message at the heart of Uxbridge High School: our diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and by celebrating different cultures and experiences, we build a stronger, more united community.
A Final Thank You
Finally, I would like to thank our Year 10 and Year 12 students, who have continued sitting examinations during the extreme heat with great maturity and resilience. We recognise the additional challenge this has presented and are incredibly proud of the positive attitude they have shown throughout the week.
Thank you once again to our students, parents, carers and staff for your continued support. Together, we continue to demonstrate the strength of our school community and our commitment to unity.
