Principals Weekly Update

Community, Creativity and Opportunity: This Week's Principal's Vlog

This week's vlog was filmed during a Year 8 Art lesson, highlighting the important role creativity plays within our school community. Continuing the theme of community and unity, the vlog explored how art, cultural celebration and enrichment opportunities help bring people together and strengthen the Gold Standard values we are proud of at Uxbridge High School.

Art as a Form of Expression

The focus of this week's assemblies was Art and its Impact on the World. During the Year 8 lesson, students were learning about the artist Salvador Dalí, combining subject knowledge with practical artistic skills to create their own work.

Art is much more than drawing or painting. It provides a way for people to express ideas, beliefs and emotions. While some students may feel more confident in art than others, creativity is something everyone can develop. At its heart, art is about self-expression, meaning everyone has the opportunity to succeed and find their own creative voice.

This links closely to our value of being Unique. Our community is strengthened by the diversity of experiences, backgrounds and perspectives that each individual brings to school every day.

Celebrating Our School Community - Thank a Teacher Day

This week also included Thank a Teacher Day, providing students with an opportunity to show appreciation for the dedication and commitment of our staff. The day served as a reminder of the positive relationships that exist across our school and the important role gratitude plays in building a strong community.

Looking ahead, preparations are continuing for our annual Culture Day. With over 50 languages spoken across the school, Culture Day celebrates the rich diversity that makes our community so special. Students will take part in activities and learning opportunities designed to deepen their understanding of culture and the importance of celebrating difference in modern Britain.

Enrichment Beyond the Classroom

Enrichment remains a key part of life at Uxbridge High School, providing students with opportunities to develop new skills, build friendships and engage with the wider community.

As part of an ongoing review of our enrichment programme, students and parents will soon be invited to share their views. Recent successes have highlighted the impact of these opportunities, including an outstanding performance by our students in a local chess competition. Their achievements demonstrate how enrichment can build confidence, develop talents and create meaningful connections beyond the classroom.

Thank you to our Year 8 Art students for allowing us to film in their lesson and thank you to our wider school community for your continued support.
