Principals Weekly Update

Anti-Bullying, Communication and Supporting Success Across the School

Welcome back to the new half term as we move towards the winter and Christmas period. After a well deserved half term break, both students and staff have returned refreshed, re-energised and ready to continue achieving our gold standards at Uxbridge High School. With the extra day on Monday, everyone has come back determined to make the most of this busy but exciting time of year.

This week’s vlog focuses on three key themes: Anti-Bullying Week, effective communication with parents, and supporting our Year 11 and 13 students as they begin their PPE exams.

Anti-Bullying at Uxbridge High School

Mrs Erasmus our Senco/DSL, led the discussion on the importance of anti-bullying. At Uxbridge High School, we aim to ensure every student feels safe, supported and valued. Bullying can take many forms: physical, verbal, emotional, and increasingly, online. Mrs Erasmus encouraged parents to have open conversations at home, not only about lessons but also about friendships, social time and well-being.

If parents notice any changes in their child’s mood or behaviour, they are urged to contact the school’s pastoral team, who will always work collaboratively to offer support.

Ms Seymour emphasised how vital it is for students, parents and the school to maintain strong partnerships to prevent and address bullying effectively. She also highlighted how UHS’s mobile-free environment helps reduce the risks associated with online behaviour, creating safer and more focused learning spaces for everyone.

Strong Communication with Parents

Communication remains a central focus for the school. Following the recent Year 8 Parents’ Evening, Ms Seymour thanked families for completing the post-event survey and sharing constructive feedback. The leadership team will be analysing these results and sharing “You said, we did” updates shortly, ensuring that parent voices continue to shape the way the school operates.

Filming for this week’s vlog took place in the Flexible Learning Centre, which is a vital part of the school’s inclusive provision. The centre supports students who may benefit from smaller sessions to help them access the full curriculum successfully. In the coming months, parents will be invited to visit the centre to learn more about the support available and to offer their feedback on how UHS can continue to enhance inclusion and accessibility.

Supporting Exam Success

Finally, Ms Seymour shared a message of support for Year 11 and 13 students as they begin their PPE (mock) examinations. She reminded parents of the importance of balance, encouraging revision, rest and wellbeing in equal measure.

Students have returned to lessons with great focus and determination, and staff have been impressed by the high standards of work seen across classrooms. With clear revision plans, good routines, and continued support from home, students are well prepared to achieve their best.

In Partnership with Parents

As always, Ms Seymour closed with thanks to parents and carers for their continued engagement and support. Together, through open communication, shared values and high aspirations, Uxbridge High School continues to ensure that every young person thrives and achieves their gold standard.
