From 5th – 8th February 2015, thirty Sixth Form students went to Berlin on an A Level History trip. The purpose of the visit was to investigate various aspects of the A Level History Curriculum, including life in the 3rd Reich and the Cold War.
On Friday 6th February, the Drama department took two Shakespeare Ambassadors from Uxbridge High School to Stratford, to plan the coming years of the RSC Partnership.
Year 11 students at Uxbridge High were under the spotlight on Tuesday 20th January 2015 as they practised their self-presentation skills in front of a host of local and National employers.
First Story ran a national writing competition, that Mr Boyton (Librarian) implemented in library lessons, with the task being to write a short story or poem, based on the theme of ‘home’.
On Tuesday, 11th November 2014, Uxbridge High School hosted the RSC Year 2 Launch Event, which was attended by Lizzie Rawlinson, Project Manager of Learning and Performance Network at the RSC.
Each year the maths and English departments run a revision residential aimed at Year 11 students who require additional intervention in both subjects in order to achieve their target grades.
Six students from the Sixth Form entered a Coca-Cola Enterprises competition. The Coca-Cola Team were delighted to receive their profile video and invited them to spend a day at their head office, Enterprises House in Uxbridge on Wednesday, 19th November 2014.
On Friday 17th October, the History Department took ninety-five Year 8 students to visit Warwick castle as part of their module on the Battle of Hastings and the rule of William the Conqueror.
On Wednesday 15th October, ten Key Stage 4 students represented Uxbridge High School in the first round of the West London Debating League. Eight of the students had already attended a workshop hosted by the University of Oxford and over the last fortnight they have been honing their skills in time for the opening round of the competition. The team performed admirably on the night, speaking confidently, intellectually and persuasively about two motions (one of which was only released fifteen minutes prior to the debate).
The West London Debating League is a growing initiative that has come out of the lack of opportunities for KS4 students at state schools to engage in competitive debating.
Wasim Jabbar and Ehtisham Imran both achieved marks for the ifs University College in Financial Studies that were in the top 1% of all 7000 students taking the qualification in the country. In recognition of this achievement they have been offered a scholarship of £750 each should they decide to continue their studies with the college by enrolling on a degree programme next summer.
