Principals Weekly Update

Celebrating Black History Month and Recognising Student Achievement
Celebrating Black History Month
This week, our assemblies have focused on celebrating Black History Month and recognising the contributions of important figures throughout history, as well as individuals making a difference within our local communities today.
Students have been learning about significant figures and the impact they have had on society. One of the individuals explored during assembly was Sir Learie Constantine, the lawyer and campaigner who played an important role in challenging discrimination in employment.
The assemblies provided an opportunity for students to reflect on the contributions of Black individuals throughout history and consider the difference that people can make within their communities.
Recognising Hard Work and Determination
Alongside our Black History Month assemblies, we have also been highlighting the importance of recognising hard work, positive behaviour and determination.
At the start of the academic year, we introduced a refreshed rewards system designed to celebrate students who consistently demonstrate our school values.
Students are challenged to achieve 25 points in each of the following categories: positivity, respectfulness, open-mindedness, uniqueness and determination. Students can also work towards achieving 50 points for Star Behaviours.
As students reach these milestones, they can access a range of rewards across the school.
Rewards and Celebrations
Students who achieve 100 points will have the opportunity to take part in a year-group reward trip. Other rewards include the Prince Party with the Principal, our Gold Assembly and the Zero Hero award.
These rewards are designed to recognise students who demonstrate commitment, positive attitudes and determination throughout the school year.
Looking Ahead to Our Awards Evening
We are looking forward to celebrating the achievements of students from Years 8 to 13 at our upcoming awards event next week, where we will recognise the many ways our students have demonstrated the gold standard throughout the previous academic year.
The event will provide an opportunity to celebrate student success and recognise the hard work, determination and positive contributions of our young people.
