Uxbridge High School celebrates GCSE results

Today we celebrate the achievements of our Year 11 students, who collected their GCSE and vocational results this week. Behind every grade is a young person who has worked with determination, shown up for one another, and grown into the unique individual to be celebrated. That is what we are proudest of.

This is a year to celebrate loudly. Our students have delivered the school's strongest set of exam outcomes since 2022, and — just as importantly — the improvement has been broad. It runs across the cohort and across the curriculum, not concentrated in a few places. That kind of gain is the product of consistency, belief, and hard work over five years, and it belongs to the staff and students collectively.

Academic success; What our students achieved

High Performing Students - 13% of grades were grade 8 or 9, 23% of grades were grade 7 or above and 52% were grade 5 or above. This is our highest exam results outside the exceptional grading arrangements of 2022.

Nearly half of our students secured a grade 5 or above in both English and maths - up from around two in five last year — a step change in the qualifications that open the most doors.

Almost a quarter of all entries awarded at grades 7 to 9, the top of the grading scale — a remarkable jump that reflects real academic stretch.

Our EBacc results climbing sharply, with the proportion of students achieving a strong pass across these core academic subjects nearly doubling.

Many subjects stood out. Some exceptional performances to note are History, English, Spanish, Music, Sociology and Separate Sciences all achieving above or close to 30% of grades at grade 7 or higher. In addition languages increased the proportion of students reaching a standard pass, this rose dramatically, a testament to the reach and ambition of our curriculum. 

Our vocational students have every reason to be proud too. In Hospitality and Catering, every single candidate reached a Level 2 Pass or above — the strongest performance against target of any qualification in the school — while our Engineering students improved on last year and continue to build. These are qualifications that lead directly to skilled careers, and our students have earned their next steps.

Character Success; Who are students are
At Uxbridge High School we have never measured achievement by grades alone. Our PROUD values — Positive, Respectful, Open Minded, Unique, Determined — are the characteristics that shape our students through their journey with us, and this cohort has embodied them.

The students leaving us today combine real academic and vocational success with the character to carry it forward. They know how to work hard and how to look after each other. As they move on to our sixth form, to college, and to the wider world, they take both with them — the qualifications and the person those qualifications were built by. That is the whole point of a UHS education, and it is why we celebrate every student, whatever their results, for the journey they have travelled and the way they have travelled it.

Words from the Principal
I am incredibly Proud today, but we are always looking forward.  Our Gold Standards are not a finishing line. They are a way of working: we reflect, and we improve. Even in a year as strong as this one, we hold both things at once — we celebrate wholeheartedly, and we ask honestly where we can do better and for whom. We are determined that every student, without exception, feels the benefit of the progress this school is making. That commitment — to inclusion by design, to raising standards for all, and to never being complacent — is the golden thread running through everything we do.
