Mariam is a young carer. Her mother suffers from a chronic back condition called Fibromyalgia; this condition leads to bowel and kidney failure, which Mariam’s mother also suffers from.
Mariam’s mother spends a lot of her time bed bound so Mariam has to help care for her giving her medicine etc. She also has to do many chores around the house, such as the cleaning, cooking, shopping and washing.
Mariam has two younger siblings who she helps look after, getting them ready for school, preparing packed lunches etc.
