Oxford University Union Debating Trip

On Thursday 11th June 2015, a group of UHS high achieving students visited the Oxford Union. The Oxford Union is a historic institution that has hosted politicians, historians, philosophers and many of the greatest minds of the last 600 years.

The students were given a master class in British Parliamentary debating from a seasoned graduate, before having a go themselves in a small competition. The students rose to the challenge and produced some extremely convincing, articulate and original arguments.

The group then went to visit Hertford College, one of the 36 colleges that make up the University. Here they spent an hour speaking to current undergraduates about the application process, as well as both the social and academic side of life at Oxford. Following that, the students joined current and past members of the University in the ancient chamber of the Oxford Union to watch the final debate of the year; a spectacle of oratorical fireworks that they found both amusing and instructive.
